newrybar, northern nsw - 28.7206° S, 153.5294° E
perched along a defining ridge in newrybar, byron bay, this small renovation project is an investigation into downsizing, minimising waste and thoughtful living. rather than demolishing and building again, the collective decision was made to work with the existing shell.
minor adjustments have been made to the building envelope to allow the building to connect to place, simultaneously capitalising on natural light, prevailing breezes and lines of sight.
the planning aims to accommodate the dynamics of a young family by providing flexibility. a conscious effort has been made to maximise shared rooms where family members congregate and live together and share their daily rituals.
